Credential Requirements for the Registered Financial Consultant:

bulletEDUCATION: An RFC® candidate must have earned a baccalaureate or graduate degree with strong emphasis on subjects relating to:
bulletEconomics
bulletFinance
bulletAccounting
bulletOther similar studies.
bulletAlternatively, an RFC® candidate must have earned one of the following professional degrees or designations:
bulletAAMS
bulletCertified Financial Analyst (CFA)
bulletCERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®)
bulletChartered Financial Consultant (ChFC)
bulletChartered Life Underwriter (CLU)
bulletCertified Public Accountant (CPA)
bulletEnrolled Agent (EA)
bulletJuris Doctorate (JD)
bulletLLB, LUTCF or RHU
bulletLICENSING: An RFC® candidate must have met licensing requirements for securities and life/health insurance; or be a fee-only planner and, if not licensed, must submit Registered Investment Adviser affiliation information.
bulletINTEGRITY: RFC® candidate must have a sound record of business integrity with no suspensions or revocations of any professional licenses.
bulletWORK EXPERIENCE: An RFC® candidate must have a minimum of four years experience as a full-time practitioner in the field of financial planning.
bulletETHICS: An RFC® candidate must subscribe to the International Association of Registered Financial Consultants' Code of Ethics.
bulletCONTINUING EDUCATION: Every year, an RFC® must obtain 40 hours of continuing education in the field of financial planning.
